THE STAR IS DRAWN. A stroll with Gilles Chaillet amongst signs and drawings through the Rome of the Caesars
This exhibition sets out to explore the fascination of Gilles Chaillet in ancient Rome by relating the graphic works on display to the collection housed in the Museo della Civiltà Romana, paying particular attention to the model of the City of Rome.
The drawings produced by this artist provide an extraordinary view of the city of Rome as it must have appeared to a foreigner arriving in the capital of the Empire during the 4th century AD: a detailed description created by the meticulous execution of graphics that depict, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, building by building and window by window every tiny detail imaginable.
Multi-media stations set up along the display enable visitors to “question” the large model to find out more about what they are seeing and participate in a “close-up” virtual tour (created by SIRVEX).
